About
Hello! My name is Deb Shostek. I am a math, science, ACT and SAT tutor with 19 years of experience. I help middle school and high school students tackle and master complex concepts, boosting their grades and their confidence along the way. From 7th grade algebra to AP calculus, I can sensibly explain the subjects that are difficult to grasp. An involved tutor does more than help students pass tests. They empower them to uncover the right answer on their own!
Biochemistry to Tutoring
I began my career as a biochemist. After my four children were born, I wanted to find a career where I could use my experience in the same discipline, but that also offered me a flexible schedule as a mother. Once my friend asked me to tutor her son, the pieces fell into place: tutoring was the ideal way to leverage my talent, education and skills and to help kids succeed.
After 19 years, I continue to enjoy my passion for tutoring. I’ve tutored many students throughout their middle and high school years, and in some cases, multiple siblings from the same families. I’ve seen my students follow their dreams and accomplish their goals, all with the help of a solid foundation in math and science, along with a focus on college test prep. I am excited to meet the next generation of students – your student – and support them as well.
Who Can I Help?
I work with middle school and high school-aged students in Sharon and surrounding towns. I have the unique ability to both listen attentively and explain concepts clearly, which helps my students make progress quickly in subjects with which they struggle.
Whether your student needs help with a specific topic or you’d like them to meet regularly with a tutor, I offer both ongoing and one-time appointments.
Why I Do What I Do
For all students, tutoring boosts self-confidence and self-esteem. Tutoring helps make learning easier, thereby making it more fun. Tutoring helps teach children and teens good study habits they can take with them to college and beyond. A positive relationship with a tutor can also encourage students to ask questions and take ownership of their education. These are my goals for your student.
